Review by Daniel Bear

Symphonic, Gothic & Folk Metal.

Evenoire’s sound is a vast cornucopia of styles blended together and the fact that they make it work so well is a testament to their ability as composers. Along with Lisy Stefanoni‘s unique vocals and flute playing, it helps set Evenoire apart from all the other female fronted metal bands out there. Lyrically the songs are based on legends, literature and folk stories and these little stories are told very well.

The band is very strong and one thing I personally like is the fact that you can hear the bass and not just feel it, too often these days the bass gets lost in the mix, but not here. There are no weak songs on Vitriol and I think everyone will have different favourite tracks depending if you prefer the straighter symphonic metal songs or the more folk influenced songs.

To give you a taste of the different musical approaches taken on Vitriol I have linked to two songs at the bottom of this review which will give you a good idea of what to expect. With ‘Days of the Blackbird’ and ‘Minstrel of the Dolomites’ you get to hear the two distinctive sounds of Evenoire and also Lisy’s different singing styles.

On ‘Misleading Paradise’ Lisy duets with Gaby Koss (ex-Haggard) which is one of the many highlights. I’m really impressed with Vitriol and what Evenoire have achieved and I look forward to seeing where they go from here. Will they stay with the two distinctive approaches or go in one of the two directions? Or will they try to blend their sounds even further?
